It’s interesting to observe the story of the process of Samuel’s birth, a priest, a judge
and a prophet of Israel. During his lifetime, the kingdom of heaven ruled over God’s
people. This one person is given power by God to take care of the nations to live in
peace.
Samuel’s father was Elkanah, that is written in Hebrew with “Elqanah” which means
‘God has had or God has made’.
Elkanah had two wives, whose names were Hannah and Penninah. Hannah is written in
Hebrew with ‘channah’ which means ‘grace’. While Peninah is written with ‘Penninah’
which means ‘jewel’.
Penninah given birth many children while Hannah was barren. But Hannah kept on
depending on God, and always brought her being to be connected to the reality of God.
So by the grace of God she was given a child named Samuel.
It was God’s will that Samuel was born through the existence of Elkanah and Hannah.
Samuel had belonged to God and lived in His grace. He was not raised by external
things, but was raised in the grace and reality of God’s presence. He was in the womb
of a person who depended on God’s mercy!
From what is written above I learned something:
- To give birth to the generation of Samuel, a figure or spiritual father is needed
whose life fully belongs to God.
It is through this figure that the seed will emerge bud that is holy in the midst of a
crooked generation! - The generation of Samuel will be birthed by God’s church that actively pursues
and needs the reality of God and His Word (activating grace).
So that a spiritual atmosphere is built that is filled with the work of the Spirit and
the Word that molds the Samuel generation according to the pattern set by God. - The birth or the rise of God-fearing young people cannot be by ‘outward ways’
(‘gems’), but only by a divine way, which is through the work of the Spirit and the
Word. - Maybe in terms of quantity, the generation of Samuel’s is not as many or as
productive as the generation from ‘Penninah’, but rest assured, quantity does not
affect the impact.
Remember, Samuel as one man can influence nations. Let alone if ‘there were many
Samuels’ who were born and walked in the unity of the body of Christ, then God’s Word
is fulfilled: by faith WE will overcome the world!
I am more convinced to always depend on the work of the Spirit and the Word even
more. Ensuring myself to experience further the full touch of God’s reality, unite with
Him and become His completely.
The generation of Samuel will be born to end the ‘reign of the priest Eli’, destroying all
ungodliness, carnality and religiousness. And at the same time making the eyes of the
heart or the inclination of the heart of many people to be directed to God again and His
Word alone!
