John 14:12-14 (NIV) Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Notice the sentence “whatever you ask in my name, I will do it” and “if you ask me
anything in my name, I will do it.”

The sentences above ‘really test my heart’, because one question arises, what do we
want to ask from God. There are people who associate the verse above with physical
blessings, healing, success and so on. It’s lawful because indeed from God himself He
‘does not give a limitation to the request’. God can give all of those for us who believe
and ask Him.

But I realized, the level of relationship and maturity actually affects what requests we
will make of Him. God ‘has His favorite people whom He would never turn down from
asking of Him’. Because those people know how to approach God with the right attitude
of heart.

Let’s say Moses, there is one request that makes Moses have a ‘special place before
God’:

Exodus 33:15 (NIV) Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.

Moses wanted the personal of God himself. Moses was not ‘captivated’ by the promise
of the promised land, what He wanted was the reality of God. Likewise David, He
wanted the Spirit of God to remain in his life. Again, this speaks of the reality of God’s
presence that he desires.

Psalm 51:10-11 (NIV) Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.

Do not forget Paul, he has only one desire, namely:

Philippians 3:10-11 (NIV) I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.

If the faith figures above have shown an attitude of the heart that pleases God, then I
will do the same thing. We are not ‘apple polishing’ before Him, but we are earnestly
seeking His face as a form of our love for Him! That’s the part I have to do. The rest is
God’s part!

Malachi 3:17 (NIV) “On the day when I act,” says the Lord Almighty, “they will be my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as a father has compassion and spares his son who serves him.
