Moses: A Lesson in Overcoming Conflict and Pressure

Exodus 3:1 (NKJV) Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.

One verse above has many very deep meanings.

  1. Moses who was God’s chosen one to free the Israelites from Egyptian slavery who was living a life ‘outside his calling’.

Moses was constantly busy ‘feeding the flocks of his father-in-law, Jethro’. Not a bad or illegal job, but a normal job in general. Jethro himself comes from Hebrew: ‘yithro’ which means ‘his abundance’.

So, Moses was in a ‘power or system’ that made him work to maintain and produce more abundance. That’s the motivation of people in general when it comes to work.

  1. Midian comes from the Hebrew word, ‘midyan’, which means discord or strife.

So, Musa is in the middle of a family and community group full of conflict.

Let’s try to imagine the condition of Moses from the basis of the two conditions above. We can conclude that Musa’s life was not going well. He was in conflict and the pressures of life’s demands that made him lose his abilities and even his identity as THE REDEEMER!

Exodus 3:11 (NKJV) But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”

Exodus 4:1 (NKJV) Then Moses answered and said, “But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’ ”

Exodus 4:10 (NKJV) Then Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”

The right description to describe Musa’s condition is this: Musa is like an eagle who lives in a chicken coop!

  1. There are many believers who are in a condition like Moses.

They are bound by a life system that pursues outer abundance, and are in an inner conflict and unresolved dispute, so they ‘begin to accept another identity that the world gives’. As a result, their lives are ‘getting away from God’s plan’.

  1. God is still a faithful God.

He will condition these people to experience supernatural things many times, and have more intense encounters with God to draw their attention back to God and His calling.

  1. This morning the Holy Spirit prompted me to pray for people who have been bound in life’s pressures and inner conflicts, so that their EYES OF HEARTS are OPEN to see His calling!

Ephesians 1:16-18 (NKJV) do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your [a]understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.

  1. The Holy Spirit confirms that the power of prayer will play a very important role for people who we haven’t been able to reach with outward hands and words.

Those who previously closed themselves off because of pressure and inner conflict will suddenly experience an encounter with God personally. They will turn to chase God and fly like an eagle to complete His calling with the power from the highest place!

Let your existence be a witness of a life that was originally full of stress and conflict, so it was changed to function as a mighty instrument of God.
